Michael Sboro Secures Forth Place Finish at Shenandoah Speedway
SHENANDOAH, V.A. - Michael Sboro overcame adversity to secure a solid fourth place finish in the July 15 Carolina Ford Focus Midget event at Shenandoah Speedway. Qualifying in the fifth position on the 3/8-mile, semi-banked oval, Sboro's time was disqualified after failing post qualifying inspection and was forced to start in the last position on 12 car starting grid.
"We went testing on Friday with Gary Huffman and didn't really do that well," commented Sboro, defending Northeast Focus Champion, "but we practiced well on race day and had a pretty good qualifying lap. Unfortunately, we had the wrong space on the right rear which put us a little over on off-set thus disqualifying our run."
Knowing he had a strong car, Sboro went to work at the drop of the green taking positions throughout the 35-lap feature, finally finishing in the forth position in hot pursuit of the second and third place finishers.
"I had a lot of fun passing the slower cars on my way to the front, we just ran out of laps," explained Sboro. "We were hot of Bradley (Riethmeyer) and Chase's (Scott) trail but just couldn't make the pass. Over all it was a great day for us and had we not had the mishap in qualifying could have maybe battled for a win."
Sboro will be in action again next week when the Carolina Ford Focus Series makes its forth stop at the historic Hickory Motor Speedway located in Hickory, N.C. July 22.
